Did you know that when you are in Costa Rica you are sitting on top of the equator? Well not literally but it feels like it. The sun melts into your skin and then randomly surprises you with a burn. That is apparently what happens when you sit directly on top of the equator, not next to it, but on it.
I am sorry it has been so long since an update. I have realized I have done a lot in the last 9 days that I may not be able to fit it all in. Last weekend I went with Flor and her family to Punta Leona, wasn't my first choice of a beach or maybe the whole traveling scene in general, but definitely beautiful and a good time. There were lots of parrots, a butterfly garden, and a lot of sun and sand. Below are pictures of Punta Leona.
Due to the Census there was no public school this last week so I ventured with another student teacher to Puerto Viejo. I returned from Punta Leona on Sunday evening, packed my stuff Monday and Maggie and I were off at 4:45 am. to SanJose for the first real travel adventure of the trip. Working through the public transportation and all, we finally arrived in Puerto Viejo on the Carribean coast around 10:30. Our hostel was quite nice, definitely a travelers hangout. It was large with mosaics to be found everywhere. The first two nights we stayed in a shared room. We then realized we were running out of money so downgraded to the Hammocks. All in all the Hammocks weren't too bad.
We beach hopped one day to Playa Cocles, Punta Uva, and Manzanillo. All were beautiful beaches with not many people. Our means of transportation were bikes. Not nice little mountain bikes that go fast but heavy cruiser bikes, and well with me being so athletic (sarcasm), I got my but kicked. We biked about a total of 20 KM or so. It was definitely worth it but my body is still paying for it today. Also just to give you a better idea of me peddling, remember it was hot, like really hot and humid. It was great to see the small villages along the way. Puerto Viejo has a very rastafarian feel to it, they are all about the reggae music and Bob Marley. It is a tourist area but I didn't feel like it was too built up. I believe mom and I will return to Puerto Viejo when she is here for more adventures.
On Monday June 6th, Adam and I will have been married for two whole years! Wow how time flies. Amazing that when I'm gone, I seem to miss him more and more every day. Isn't there some cheesy saying "Distance makes the heart grow fonder"........ So If you see him, wish him Happy Anniversary!
